Rick Gassko in “Bachelor Party” (1. In one of his first movie roles, Hanks is great as a soon- to- be- married guy who tries to stay out of trouble after his friends throw a wild bachelor party for him. ![]() Hanks' physical comedy is at its best here. Donovan in “Bridge of Spies” (2. For most actors, a role like this in a Steven Spielberg movie is a highlight in their filmography. For Hanks, it's a strong performance but hard to compare to the others higher on this list. Dorr in “The Ladykillers” (2. One of the most outlandish roles Hanks ever played, and the closest he's ever come to playing a villain. In this underappreciated Coen brothers movie, Hanks is the mastermind of a robbery that goes wrong. His tough- love act showed a different kind of comedy to audiences, who at the time still knew him best for his romantic comedies. Carl Hanratty in “Catch Me If You Can” (2. Hanks plays the no- nonsense FBI agent who tracks down a young forger played by Leonardo Di. Caprio. Hanks is perfect as the guy with the tough surface and compassionate center. Chuck Noland in “Cast Away” (2. Giving a tour- de- force performance as a man stranded on an island after surviving a plane crash, Hanks dropped substantial weight for the film. He's virtually by himself for most of the movie, and his talents are at their peak; he can still keep the audience utterly captivated. The performance got him an Oscar nomination. Sam Baldwin in “Sleepless in Seattle” (1. Hanks and Meg Ryan deliver one of the most romantic movies of all time. And Hanks shows that he can play a dramatic romance role as well as a rom- com. A not- too- bright man finds himself involved in some of the most famous moments in history. Woody in “Toy Story” (1. Another character Hanks will forever be tied to is Woody in the Pixar hit franchise . Captain Miller in “Saving Private Ryan” (1. Hanks has had a career filled with powerful characters, but his Oscar- nominated performance as a captain who leads a group of soldiers behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in the war is a masterful performance. Matched by the incredible direction of Spielberg, Hanks delivers something that will be remembered for generations. A Hijacking (2. 01. Very good Drama, A Hijacking is a riveting film about what goes when a ship is high jacked by pirates and how the company tries to negotiate the release of its crew by agreeing to the pirates demands. Following the crew and the heads of the company who own the ship, the story is a back and forth game agreeing on a deal for the ships release. Brilliantly shot, acted and directed, A Hijacking is really a movie told in subtlety. The plot is simple, yet engaging, gripping and tense. If you're going into this film expecting a film like Captain Phillips, you'll sadly be disappointed as this film isn't an action drama, like that film. This movie is more of a take on the negotiations with pirates to safely release the crew, so it's not action film, but nonetheless it is a fine picture that boasts a riveting story. What really does stand out in the film is the acting. I thought the cast were very good in their parts and the actor who played the cook was very good, and brought the despair of the hostage situation in a way that really stood out. A Hijacking is a terrific picture, one that will keep you involved from start to finish. Although different, A Hijacking is memorable drama film that should be seen by anyone that enjoys a well structured drama. This is a riveting picture that chronicles the ordeal of coming under a piracy- hostage situation perfectly. Even if Captain Phillips was an action packed, riveting thriller, this picture is equally as stunning, but is more subtle in showing the ordeal of the crew and it works well, because A Hijacking is a fine movie that is constantly riveting and doesn't falter.
